MAJOR CATCH BASIN CLEANING TO BEGIN CITYWIDE NEXT WEEK

(4/3/2008) NEW HAVEN- A major catch basin cleaning exercise is about to begin throughout New Haven. For this effort to be successful, residents are asked to not park over the catch basins.

Starting next week, two contractors, McVac Environmental and National Water Main Cleaning Company, will be mobilizing 5 vacuum trucks to begin the catch basin cleaning. In future weeks the companies will add two more vacuum trucks to the job. Work will be in progress from Monday to Friday beginning April 9 until the end of June.

Residents will help operations greatly if they park their cars no closer than 7 feet away from catch basins, as this will give contractors necessary access. Also, if cars are parked over catch basins while work is in progress, residents are asked to cooperate by moving them if requested to do so by the contractor's staff.

The areas of the City that are affected by this cleaning project are shown in pink on the attached map.
